The United States Polo Association Mourns the Loss of Longtime Member, Friend and

Polo Hall of Famer Carlos Gracida

February 26, 2014 (Lake Worth, FL) – Carlos Gracida, one of the greatest players in the history of the sport of polo, died yesterday in Florida as a result of injuries sustained from a fall while playing the game he loved.  Carlos was inducted into the Museum of Polo & Hall of Fame in 2012 in recognition of a remarkable record of achievement in polo, including winning the U.S. Open Polo Championship® nine times.

“With great humility and sadness, I would like to express the deep condolences of all United States Polo Association members to Carlos’ family over their loss,” said Peter Rizzo, CEO of the United States Polo Association. “Carlos Gracida was a friend, a great competitor and a true statesman of our sport who will be missed throughout the polo world.”

“The safety and welfare of participants and mounts is a paramount concern of the United States Polo Association,” continued Rizzo. “In our role as governing body of polo in the United States, we are reviewing the circumstances of this tragic accident to determine its cause, and learn what, if anything, could have prevented it.”
